Screen sharing is a feature that lets you share your screen with yosers during classes, making your sessions easier and more interactive. It's perfect for displaying images, providing guided website navigation and watching videos together, fostering a more efficient and engaging class flow. With real-time collaboration on projects and assignments, it helps create a dynamic learning space where you can connect with your yosers smoothly.
This feature is designed exclusively for tutor use —yosers do not have the option to initiate screen sharing — thereby giving tutors sole control over the presentation of session materials.
This article will explain how screen sharing works and the troubleshooting process, should you encounter any problems while using it.
Windows doesn't require changes to OS settings in order to allow screen sharing, so you should be able to utilize this feature without having to make any updates to the settings.
On Mac OS, screen sharing on Chrome requires some simple changes to the system preferences that need to be made only once. If you're using a Mac, we recommend updating the settings prior to starting your classes since restarting Chrome is required for changes to take effect.
Here’s what needs to be done:
- Go to System Settings either by clicking the apple icon in the upper left or using the Finder.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down and select Screen & System Audio Recording.
- If Chrome is on the list, just toggle it on if needed. If not, you can add it by clicking the "+" icon and selecting Chrome. (You may need to enter your system password to unlock the option to make these changes.)
- Click Quit & Reopen when asked to quit now or later.

To start screen sharing, click the “+” at the top of the session page and select the Screen Sharing icon from the drop-down menu. You can then select what you’d like to share from the available options before clicking "Share."(see below).

The screen-sharing feature gives you multiple options to choose from. However, the simplest and most useful option would be to open the content you want to share in a new Chrome tab and choose to share that specific tab. It's straightforward and keeps your sharing focused only on what you need. Let's take a look at this option along with other screen-sharing methods.
Chrome Tab - Only what is shown within the selected Chrome tab will be shared in the call.
Window - You can select an application or Chrome window that you want to share in the call. If a Chrome window is selected, you can toggle between browser tabs within that window and that will also be shared with the yosers.
Entire Screen - Anything shown on your screen will be shared in the call.
You will see your screen multiply infinitely if you share the session page call screen. This is common among many screen-sharing tools.
There are two ways to stop sharing:
- Any participant can close the Screen Sharing tab by clicking the X button beside it.
- The person who is sharing their screen can click "Stop sharing" on the small floating bar that the Chrome browser displays
