Community Standards: Professional Conduct & Environment

[MANDATORY PLATFORM STANDARD]

To keep Yo! a safe, respectful, and high-quality space for everyone, all tutors agree to follow these core community standards. Think of these not as rules from a boss, but as the shared "rules of the road" that make great learning experiences possible. Meeting these standards is a key part of using our platform.

1. Your Teaching Environment

Let's make every session look and sound great for the yoser! You're the boss of where you teach, but to make sure every yoser gets that top-notch Yo! experience they pay for, every session needs to meet these quality baselines:

  • A Professional and Distraction-Free Vibe: Great conversations need focus! Make sure your audio is crystal clear, without loud background noise like TVs, music, or other conversations. The space behind you is part of your session, so keep it learning-appropriate.

  • A Stable, Pro-Looking Video: Yosers need to see you clearly! This means your video should be steady (not shaky), well-lit, and focused. Any setup that creates a blurry, dark, or wobbly video feed — like trying to tutor from bed or while walking around — just doesn't hit the quality mark our yosers expect and isn't allowed on the platform.

2. Your Tech Setup

To make sure every session is stable and gives you and your yoser access to all the cool features of the Yo! Zone, a solid tech setup is key.

  • Why a Computer is Your Best Friend on Yo!: The Yo! Zone is packed with interactive tools built for a larger screen, like our material library and shared chat.

  • To make sure everything runs smoothly and to prevent technical glitches, our platform requires sessions to be run on a desktop or laptop computer. It's a technical standard that guarantees the best quality and reliability for everyone.

3. Your Professional Conduct

  • Be Present and Focused: During a session, your full attention should be on the yoser. Activities like eating, smoking, using your phone for personal reasons, or appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs are strictly prohibited.

  • Dress the Part: We don't have a strict uniform, but we do require professional and appropriate attire suitable for a teaching session. Clothing that is overly revealing (e.g., swimwear) or contains offensive content is not permitted.

  • Session Integrity: Sessions are one-on-one. Bringing friends, family members, or any other person into the session is not allowed. Furthermore, ending a session significantly earlier than its scheduled time without a valid reason (like a technical failure, emergency or safety issue) does not meet the service standard.

  • Language Use:

    • Portuguese: The platform's goal is English immersion. Portuguese should only be used as a last resort if a yoser is completely unable to understand a critical concept and agrees to a brief clarification. Always prioritize rephrasing in English first.

    • Slang/Cursing: This is only acceptable if a yoser explicitly chooses it in their session preferences to practice informal language. It should never be used in a disrespectful manner.

  • Trust & Safety: Our highest priority is a respectful community. Our platform has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment, discrimination, prejudice, bias, disrespect, slur, or abusive behavior towards yosers or Yo! Inglês staff.

4. Upholding Our Standards

Adherence to these community standards is a core requirement of using the Yo! platform. Our Trust & Safety team may review session recordings, particularly in response to a user complaint, to ensure these standards are being met.

A documented failure to adhere to these mandatory standards constitutes a material breach of your agreements with us. Depending on the severity and frequency of the issue, this may result in a Formal Notice from the platform or, in more serious cases, immediate deactivation of your account, as provided for in the Tutoring Services Agreement.
