Preparing for Yo! sessions

Our sessions are meant to be fun and interactive, so for most of them, tutors don’t have to prepare anything. However, in some cases, yosers might want to discuss a certain topic a tutor doesn’t know anything about, or they might want to use a certain material (e.g., a news article), so the tutor is expected to respect the yoser’s wish and follow their lead. In case the yoser cannot decide what they want to do, or they ask you to choose a material for them, you can either suggest one of the materials from our library (we suggest Daily News articles) or even pick something from your own personal resources. In case the yoser doesn’t want to use any of our or your materials, you may find some inspiration on this list.
In addition to the topic of the session, the yoser will also choose:
if they want to be interrupted and corrected or not
whether they want to do the introductions or not
speaking speed
use of profanity
They can also leave specific comments or requests related to the session, so please make sure to check that section as well.
Please check these details carefully before you enter the Yo! Zone - it’s always good to come prepared for sessions!
🧠 Also, here’s a general session structure that you can but don’t have to follow at all times - depending on the yoser’s preferences and the situation. Keep in mind that we are all about real-life interactions with the main goal of teaching and connecting while doing that. Real-life communication isn't scripted.

When it comes to step number 3, please check what the yoser has chosen for their session, since they can choose to skip the review at the end of the session.
